What is the new measure to help with traffic issues during the holidays?

Traffic often increases during the holiday season due to a large number of delivery trucks on the road. With more people shopping online than ever before, this is a huge concern for local lawmakers.

The New York Post reports that the city council approved a range of new rules that aim to combat delivery truck-related traffic issues in the city. One such measure is to create dedicated curb space.

The Goal

Designated areas for curbside parking for delivery drivers will help with loading and unloading. This will help to limit truck traffic to these specific areas and provide quick parking options for drivers. It will free up other parking for people in the area who need it.

The Method

The new law will have the Department of Transportation setting up five areas within each neighborhood to serve as the loading/unloading zones. The creation will not be immediate. The project timeline will span over three years. IN total, the city will get 1,500 dedicated curb areas for delivery trucks.

The Reason

The reasoning behind adding in these zones is to make the city safer and to adjust to the way people shop these days. Delivery drivers are bringing more goods to people than ever before, so the increased number of trucks in neighborhoods is leading to traffic chaos. The zones should help to ease these issues.

Additional Measures

In addition to the curbside zones, the council also enacted measures that will outline the rules for the zones and institute technology to help ensure the zones remain for deliveries or pickups only.
